Dubai Design District, which is located in the center of the city, was established in 2013 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai. The goal of creating the Dubai Design District free zone was to create a custom design cluster that would support up-and-coming local talent and provide creative minds a place to live. It taps into the enormous potential of the luxury fashion and interior design industries as a worldwide center for design and fashion.

The free zone, often known as D3, is home to both large and small businesses, from major international fashion corporations to quaint local design studios. The market is a major factor in D3’s success, with the fashion and design sectors thriving there. The Design District Dubai is situated in a strategically important section of the city, just adjacent to the Business Bay neighborhood and next to the Dubai Mall.

The Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority, a separate regulatory body, is in charge of overseeing the Dubai Design District (D3). This free zone is undoubtedly a unique ecology that supports emerging firms in fashion, luxury, and retail.
